About

A small studio that finishes what it installs.

Canny Kay Studios works with small businesses and churches that need their audio-visual systems, websites and cloud services to be dependable rather than impressive.

Most organisations our size are stuck between two bad options: consumer equipment and do-it-yourself websites that fall apart under real use, or large vendors who quote for a scale you will never reach and lose interest once the invoice clears. We work in the gap between those two.

We also cover three areas that usually arrive as three separate suppliers: the room, the website, and the accounts behind both. When the same people handle all three, the microphone that feeds the live stream, the site the stream appears on, and the account that pays for the storage stop being somebody else’s problem.

A lot of what we get called in to fix was not badly built. It was built for a situation that has since changed, by somebody who has moved on, with no notes left behind. That is the part we take seriously.

How we think about the work

Build for the person who has to use it

The volunteer who arrives twenty minutes before a service, or the office manager updating a page between phone calls. If they cannot work it, it does not matter how good the specification was.

No lock-in

Your domains, hosting, licences and cloud accounts are registered in your name and you hold the logins. If you want to work with somebody else next year, nothing has to be untangled first.

Say when something is not needed

Plenty of problems are solved by moving a speaker, changing a setting or deleting a plugin. We would rather tell you that than sell you a bigger system you will not use.

Leave documentation behind

Labelled cables, a written record of what was installed and why, and account details in a place your organisation controls. The next person should not have to guess.

Worth knowing before you call

  • We are a small studio, so we take on a limited number of projects at a time and will say so if we cannot fit yours in when you need it.
  • We are happy to work alongside whoever already looks after your systems rather than replacing them.
  • Small jobs are welcome. A single microphone problem or one broken page is a reasonable reason to get in touch.
  • If the honest answer is that you do not need us yet, that is what you will hear.
